US bans Anthropic from letting any foreigner access its “too powerful” AI

The announcement sent waves through multiple industries. The AI company then offered extremely selective access to a few companies in a handful of countries for the sake of research, especially for finance. A few days ago, Anthropic released a watered-down version of Mythos called Claude Fable 5. Now, Anthropic has pulled access to Fable, following an order from the US government, which blocks access for “any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.” Access to Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 has now been disabled for all customers. Anthropic says it’s a misunderstanding and that it’s working with the US government to restore access.
